Rionegro completes $700 million peso sidewalk project in Pontezuela

The municipality of Rionegro has officially delivered 580 linear meters of new sidewalks in the Pontezuela sector, following a 15-year wait by local residents. The project involved an investment of approximately $700 million pesos and was completed over a three-month execution period.

The infrastructure aims to improve pedestrian mobility, strengthen road safety, and optimize public space usage in an area experiencing population growth and increased vehicle traffic. The project is expected to benefit approximately 2,500 people who transit through the area daily.

Mayor Jorge Rivas led the inauguration ceremony, which included a ribbon-cutting and a tour of the new spaces. Hugo de Jesús Alzate Castro, Vice President of the Pontezuela Community Action Board, noted that the lack of sidewalks had previously posed significant safety risks for both pedestrians and drivers.
