Rionegro hosts National Fencing Cup with 500 athletes

The National Interligas Interclubes Fencing Cup took place in Rionegro from October 8 to 12, drawing approximately 500 athletes. The competition included participants from various Colombian regions, as well as delegations from Venezuela and Panama.

Events were held at the Rubén Darío Quintero Coliseum, featuring individual and team competitions across infant, youth, and senior categories. The Antioquia Fencing League emerged as a top performer, securing 38 medals, including eight gold, six silver, and 24 bronze.

Local representation from Rionegro included 38 athletes, including 12 children from the Municipal Institute of Physical Education, Sport, and Recreation (IMER) who participated in a national competition for the first time. Robinson Builes, manager of IMER, noted that the event generated significant economic movement for the municipality.
