Rionegro hosts XXI Olimpiadas Veredales for 1,800 athletes

The XXI Olimpiadas Veredales de Rionegro has officially commenced, bringing together more than 1,800 athletes from 29 rural communities and four corregimientos. Organized by the Rionegro Mayor's Office through the Municipal Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Recreation (IMER), the event aims to promote community integration and healthy leisure activities among rural populations.

The opening ceremony featured a parade of delegations from the main park to the Rubén Darío Quintero Villada Coliseum, where the Olympic torch was lit to signal the start of the competitions. Athletes will compete across 14 different sporting disciplines, continuing a 21-year tradition of fostering social bonds and sports access within the municipality's rural sectors.
