Rionegro recycling plant fire controlled after warehouse damage
A fire at the Fundación Botellas de Amor recycling plant in the La Laja district of Rionegro, Colombia, has been brought under control. The blaze, which began on the night of Friday, September 4, affected storage warehouses, resulting in material losses and the destruction of a significant portion of the raw materials used in production.
Emergency response efforts involved a large-scale coordination between local fire departments from several municipalities, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the National Army, and the National Police, alongside various private companies. Authorities are currently using heavy machinery to remove debris and inspect lower layers of material to ensure no active combustion points remain.
Despite the damage to storage areas, the foundation reported that its transformation plant, assembly area, and administrative offices remain operational. The organization stated it will continue its commitment to its social projects. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation by technical teams.
