Jorginho Mello confirmed for re‑election as governor at PL convention in Santa Catarina FAST-MOVING

On 1 August 2026 the Liberal Party (PL) held a state convention in São José, Grande Florianópolis, to set its slate for the 2026 elections. The gathering confirmed incumbent governor Jorginho Mello as the PL candidate for re‑election as governor of Santa Catarina. Adriano Silva of the Novo party was named the vice‑governor candidate. The party also presented Carlos Bolsonaro and Carol De Toni as its Senate candidates for the state. Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the PL’s presidential contender, attended the event and addressed supporters. The convention was part of a broad coalition that includes PL, Novo, Podemos, Republicanos, Democracia Cristã and the PSDB/Cidadania federation. Speakers highlighted that Mello was the only governor in the federation who did not raise taxes during his term. Thousands of supporters filled the Arena Opus, many wearing the coalition’s green‑and‑yellow colours. The event underscored the strategic importance of Santa Catarina for the PL and the Bolsonaro family ahead of the October presidential and state elections.
