Riot Games to end active development of 2XKO in late 2026
Riot Games has announced that active development for its tag-team fighting game, 2XKO, will conclude in December 2026. The company cited insufficient player retention and engagement as the primary reasons, stating that the game costs substantially more to operate than it generates in revenue.
While active development is ending, the game will not be shut down immediately. Servers are expected to remain online beyond 2026, and the title will remain playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Riot plans to fulfill its remaining 2026 roadmap, which includes the release of two final champions, Lux and Samira, as well as feature improvements and a final bug-fix patch.
To support existing players, Riot is implementing several measures: all playable champions will be unlocked for all users, and most cosmetic items will be bundled into a single purchase option. Additionally, the company is issuing refunds for all in-game purchases made on or before August 20, 2026. The competitive series for the game is scheduled to continue through the end of 2026.
