Riot Games to end League of Legends Classic in January 2027
Riot Games has announced that support for League of Legends Classic will conclude on January 6, 2027. Despite initial interest in the mode, which recreated elements of the 2013 version of the game, a decline in active users has made its continued operation unsustainable.
To manage the transition, Riot Games will implement several changes. In regions with lower player counts, such as Korea, Latin America, Taiwan, Vietnam, Turkey, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Russia, matchmaking will be restricted to specific windows on weekdays and weekends. In Japan and the MENA region, the mode will transition to custom matches only starting with Patch 26.21.
Regarding player compensation, users who purchased exclusive cosmetics using Riot Points will receive automatic refunds by the end of November 2026. Additionally, the battle pass for the second act of version 26.21 will be provided free of charge during the final stage of service.
Riot Games indicated that this is not necessarily a permanent discontinuation. The developers expressed an intention to potentially bring the mode back in the future as an event mode, incorporating lessons learned regarding gameplay balance and historical accuracy.
