Rippl-Rónai painting returned to Kaposvár museum

President András Baka has returned the painting ‘Medgyessy olvas’ by József Rippl-Rónai to the Rippl-Rónai Museum in Kaposvár. The artwork had been on loan to the Sándor Palace for over a year.

The loan originally stemmed from a visit by the former president Tamás Sulyok and his wife, Zsuzsanna Nagy, to Kaposvár. While political figures had previously raised questions regarding the circumstances of the selection, Kaposvár Mayor Károly Szita clarified that the municipality suggested the specific painting to the presidential couple, who then accepted the offer.

Minister Viktória Lőrincz announced the return of the piece, noting that the painting is once again part of the museum's permanent collection.
