Ripple burns 15 million RLUSD tokens from treasury
Ripple has burned 15 million RLUSD tokens, transferring the assets from its treasury to an Ethereum null address. While large burns can sometimes be interpreted as a sign of decreasing demand, analysts note that for a dollar-pegged stablecoin like RLUSD, burns are a standard part of the issuance and redemption process. Tokens are typically destroyed when institutional customers redeem their holdings for US dollars.
Recent activity shows a pattern of significant minting and burning within the RLUSD treasury. For example, following a 10 million RLUSD burn on September 8, approximately 14.39 million tokens were minted. Other recent minting events occurred on September 3, 4, and 7.
Despite these fluctuations, the overall market capitalization of RLUSD has shown growth. As of September 10, CoinGecko reported the stablecoin's market cap at approximately $2.42 billion, up from roughly $1.76 billion in mid-August. Ripple continues to expand the utility of RLUSD through institutional use cases, including support for an institutional credit fund developed with Clearpool and Cicada Partners.
