Ripple CTO Emeritus clarifies XRP T-shirt design meaning
David Schwartz, CTO Emeritus of Ripple, has clarified the origin of a widely discussed XRP T-shirt that led to community speculation regarding a $1 price target. The shirt, which features a speedometer-style design pointing to the number 100, was originally commissioned to commemorate a technical milestone: the XRP Ledger (XRPL) reaching a processing capacity of 100 transactions per second (TPS).
According to Schwartz, the confusion arose due to the timing of the shirt's production. When the design was first commissioned, XRP was trading at approximately $0.30. However, by the time the physical shirts were delivered, the cryptocurrency's market value had risen to approximately $1. This price movement led community members to misinterpret the number 100 as a reference to a price target rather than the network's transaction speed. Schwartz noted that the team eventually accepted the community's interpretation rather than attempting to correct the misunderstanding.
