Ripple releases 1 billion XRP from escrow in August

Ripple unlocked a total of 1 billion XRP from its escrow account on August 1, 2026. The release was split into three transactions of 500 million, 300 million and 200 million XRP, valued at roughly $532 million, $320 million and $213 million respectively, for a combined value of about $1.08 billion.

The company typically re‑locks around 70 % of the newly released tokens—about 700 million XRP—into new long‑term escrow contracts within the first week. The net addition of roughly 300 million XRP is intended for operational use, liquidity services, partnerships and ecosystem development. After the August unlock, the circulating supply of XRP stood at about 62.5 billion tokens, with more than 32 billion still locked.

Market reaction was muted; XRP traded near $1.05–$1.08 and showed little price movement, reflecting the market’s expectation that most of the unlocked supply would be re‑locked. Analysts note that the August release follows the predictable monthly escrow schedule introduced by Ripple in 2017, which aims to provide transparency but does not by itself drive significant price changes.
