Ripple Secures EU-wide Crypto License, Outpaces US Regulatory Clarity

On 6 July 2026 Luxembourg’s financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, upgraded Ripple’s preliminary Crypto‑Asset Service Provider authorisation to a full MiCA licence. The licence lets Ripple passport regulated crypto services across all 30 countries of the European Economic Area, complementing an Electronic Money Institution licence granted in February.

The combined authorisations allow European banks, fintechs and corporates to move both fiat‑e‑money and crypto‑assets through Ripple’s Payments platform, which has already processed more than $100 billion in over 60 markets. Ripple now holds over 75 regulatory authorisations worldwide, including in Singapore, Dubai and New York.

In the United States, the CLARITY Act that would define XRP’s legal status remains stuck in the Senate, needing roughly seven Democratic votes and facing low odds of passage. The divergent regulatory environments highlight the gap between Europe’s advancing crypto framework and the still‑uncertain US approach.
