Ririe man charged with homicide following fatal Teton Pass crash

Laiton George McMinn, a 22-year-old man from Ririe, faces two counts of homicide by vehicle following a fatal crash on Teton Pass in July. According to a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper, McMinn was traveling too fast, overused his brakes, and failed to utilize the runaway truck escape ramp. The investigation determined the crash was not caused by mechanical error.

The incident resulted in the deaths of two men and left three others seriously injured. McMinn, who has held a commercial driver's license for three years, faces a high misdemeanor charge punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

In response to the crash, the ‘Make Teton Pass Safer Steering Committee’ is calling for improved safety measures. The group is advocating for additional warning signage on the eastbound descent, a vehicle checkpoint at the Wyoming–Idaho state line, and enhanced navigation alerts on GPS applications like Google Maps and Waze.
