Risaralda coordinates earthquake recovery and emergency response
Authorities in Risaralda, Colombia, are coordinating recovery efforts following a major earthquake on August 10. The department's administration has met with the National Director of the Civil Defense, Major General Jorge Humberto Jerez Cuéllar, to strengthen emergency response capabilities and secure resources for specialized rescue units, including equipment, vehicles, and training for volunteers.
In response to recommendations from the National Risk Management Unit (Ungr), the Risaralda Departmental Risk Management Council has adjusted its Specific Action Plan (PAE). The revised plan consolidates activities, reducing the number of planned actions from 302 to 226 and adjusting the budget from 5.2 trillion to 5.1 trillion pesos. The PAE focuses on two phases: early rehabilitation and reconstruction, specifically targeting the needs of the earthquake-affected population. The total estimated cost for the department's full recovery is approximately 20 trillion pesos.
