Risaralda Governor launches reconstruction plan after earthquake

Following the earthquake on August 10, Risaralda Governor Juan Diego Patiño Ochoa has launched a reconstruction strategy involving 16 local universities. The initiative aims to utilize academic and technical expertise to conduct structural diagnoses, design repair projects, and assist municipalities that lack sufficient technical capacity to manage reconstruction efforts across 14 affected areas.

The reconstruction plan also prioritizes the recovery of cultural heritage and identity. Beyond physical infrastructure, the Governor is working with the national government to protect historical sites and cultural spaces damaged by the tremor. A key focus is the restoration of the Palacio Gris in Pereira, an emblematic building that suffered damage. Other municipalities, including Marsella and Quinchía, are also identified as needing specialized interventions to preserve their cultural assets and community spaces.
