Rishabh Pant's Test Squad Selection Sparks Debate Ahead of India‑Sri Lanka Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15‑member squad for a two‑match Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026, with matches scheduled at Galle International Stadium and Colombo's SSC Cricket Ground. Wicketkeeper‑batter Rishabh Pant was included, prompting former South African star AB de Villiers to question Pant’s recent form, noting a dip in confidence during the IPL but expressing hope that representing India will restore his intensity. In preparation, Pant trained with former Indian captain MS Dhoni at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association stadium in Ranchi. The series forms a crucial part of the 2025‑27 World Test Championship, with India seeking points to improve its standing. Senior players such as Jasprit Bumrah (pending fitness clearance) and Ravindra Jadeja were also named, alongside newcomer Saransh Jain.
