Rishon Lezion garage fire kills driver after electric vehicle blaze

An approximately 80-year-old man died Sunday night following a vehicle fire in an underground parking garage of a residential building in Rishon Lezion. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire began in an electric vehicle, identified in some reports as a Tesla, which may have struck a wall before erupting in flames. The blaze subsequently spread to several other vehicles parked in the garage.

Firefighters and rescue crews worked for approximately three hours to extinguish the fire and ventilate the smoke-filled area. Heavy smoke entered the 20-story residential building, leading authorities to instruct residents to remain indoors and shut off electricity to the structure.

Paramedics from Magen David Adom pronounced the driver dead at the scene. While investigators are looking into the circumstances of the collision, police stated there is no immediate suspicion of criminal activity. The body has been sent to the National Center of Forensic Medicine for examination.
