Rising cost of living pressures reported in Spain and Santa Fe

Economic pressures regarding the cost of living are intensifying in different regions. In Spain, the annual inflation rate reached 4.3% in August 2026, an increase of seven-tenths compared to July. Key drivers include a 9.5% rise in transport costs and ongoing increases in housing. This inflation poses significant challenges for retirees on fixed pensions, as the legal formula for pension revaluation based on average IPC rates may not fully account for the rising costs of essential services like electricity, water, and healthcare.

In Santa Fe, a report by the group Comunidad indicates that 70% of residents struggle to make ends meet. According to a survey of 936 people, 30.3% cannot cover basic expenses, while 43.4% cover basics but lack funds for secondary needs such as internet, clothing, or education. The report highlights massive increases in utility tariffs, including electricity, water, and gas, alongside rising rental costs that can consume between 56% and 75% of average incomes.
