Rising costs impact sports fans' annual spending
The cost of attending sporting events has increased significantly due to inflation, impacting how fans manage their finances. According to Ally Bank’s ‘The Cost of Fandom’ report, the average fan spends $1,600 annually to support their teams, while hardcore fans average $2,200. Millennials represent the highest-spending demographic, averaging $2,050 per year.
Financial data indicates that tickets are the primary driver of overspending, affecting 60% of fans. Other significant expenses include food and drink (54%), apparel (47%), and travel (36%). Financial experts suggest treating sports as a budgeted form of entertainment rather than an unlimited obligation to avoid debt.
