Rising costs impact university students in US and Nigeria

Students in the United States and Nigeria are facing increasing financial pressures due to the rising costs associated with higher education and daily living expenses.

In the United States, concerns have been raised regarding the continuous climb of college tuition and whether the value of a degree justifies the high cost. Students have noted that academic curricula do not always translate directly to career readiness, leading to questions about the utility of certain courses in relation to their financial investment.

In Nigeria, a cost-of-living crisis is significantly impacting campus life. Students at institutions such as Babcock University, the University of Ibadan, and the University of Lagos report that the prices of food, toiletries, and household goods have surged. For example, students noted that meal prices have increased from approximately N500–N650 to as much as N1,800–N2,000, forcing many to rely on school-provided meals or reduced quantities to manage limited allowances.
