Rising fuel prices drive surge in EV charger sales and interest
Rising fuel prices are driving a significant increase in electric vehicle (EV) interest and charging infrastructure adoption. Smart EV charging company Easee reported that its H1 2026 global sales reached 112,300 units, a 49.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The company's revenue rose 32% year-on-year to €559.7 million. In the UK, charger sales volumes increased by 37%.
Similarly, energy firm ScottishPower reported a 630% year-on-year increase in enquiries for its dedicated EV offers. The company noted that its EV Optimise charging solution adoption grew by 430%. These trends coincide with high diesel and petrol costs, with diesel prices reaching approximately 199.33p per litre and petrol at 174.23p per litre, according to RAC data. Industry representatives suggest that drivers are increasingly motivated by the lower running costs of electric vehicles compared to traditional fuel.
