Romanian tourism sees higher travel costs and falling overnight stays

A Romanian family reported spending €2,240 for a week‑long holiday in Kavala, Greece, including €830 for accommodation, €311 for transport and €1,100 for food and beach services. Another Romanian family described a health incident on the Albanian coast, saying that after swimming in Vlore the whole household suffered gastroenteritis, which they linked to polluted sea water and inadequate sewage treatment.

National Institute of Statistics data show that tourist arrivals to Romanian accommodation facilities fell 2.5% in June 2026, while overnight stays dropped 5.7% compared with the same month a year earlier. Over the first half of 2026, total overnight stays were down 6.7% year‑on‑year.

In response to a heat wave, Italy’s ministries of Culture and Tourism announced extended opening hours for major sites such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon and Milan’s Sforza Castle during August, offering evening visits and reduced ticket prices to accommodate visitors.
