Rising veterinary costs drive demand for pet insurance

Veterinary costs are rising steadily due to inflation and the increasing price of medications and clinical techniques. According to the union of liberal veterinarians, costs have increased by 5% over the last year and 20% over the past decade. Because these fees are unregulated, they can vary significantly based on the professional and the region.

To manage these expenses, pet owners are increasingly turning to specialized insurance. Providers such as Fid Animo and Agria, along with generalist insurers, typically offer three tiers of coverage: economic, medium, and premium. These plans vary based on the level of veterinary intervention covered, reimbursement rates (ranging from 50% to 100%), and annual compensation ceilings between 800 and 5,000 euros.

Monthly premiums fluctuate based on the animal's breed, age, sex, and specific health vulnerabilities. Basic plans may cost between 5 and 20 euros per month, while premium options can reach 80 euros. Owners should be aware of common exclusions, such as congenital diseases or conditions that existed prior to the start of the insurance policy.
