Rita Guedes reports severe complications after eye surgery
Brazilian actress Rita Guedes has reported severe medical complications following a blepharoplasty procedure performed in February. Guedes stated that the surgery, which typically lasts between 30 minutes and two hours, lasted approximately six hours. She alleged that the practitioner was not a specialized oculoplastic surgeon or ophthalmologist.
Following the operation, Guedes experienced extreme facial swelling and deep eye pain, resulting in a five-day hospitalization. She was diagnosed with ocular keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) and severe conjunctival edema, which placed her at risk of permanent vision loss or strabismus. Guedes also claimed the surgeon applied hyaluronic acid to her face without her authorization while she was unconscious.
The Brazilian Society of Oculoplastic Surgery (SBCPO) notes that while blepharoplasty is a common procedure, it can lead to complications such as eyelid closure difficulties, ocular lesions, and ptosis. Guedes has used the experience to urge others to verify the specific training and specialization of medical professionals before undergoing cosmetic procedures.
