Rita Guedes reports vision risks following blepharoplasty complications

Brazilian actress Rita Guedes has shared her experience regarding severe complications following a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) performed in February 2026. The procedure, which typically lasts under two hours, reportedly extended to six hours for Guedes. She faced keratitis (corneal inflammation), severe conjunctival edema, and a risk of strabismus, leading to a five-day hospitalization due to the potential loss of vision in her right eye.

Medical experts note that keratitis is a known complication of blepharoplasty, often occurring when the eyelid fails to close completely, leaving the ocular surface unprotected. While the procedure is the most performed in the world according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, specialists emphasize that it requires individualized anatomical evaluation.

Surgeons highlight that blepharoplasty is not merely about removing excess skin; it involves managing orbital fat, muscle, and eyelid positioning. Proper preoperative assessment is essential to address issues like dry eyes and to align patient expectations regarding natural results and safety.
