Chega party demands hearing for PJ Director over chemical destruction costs

The Chega party has requested an urgent parliamentary hearing for Carlos Cabreiro, the National Director of the Judicial Police (PJ), to resolve contradictions regarding the destruction of chemicals seized during Operação Pacoba.

The controversy stems from discrepancies between statements made by Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves and Minister of Justice Rita Júdice. Neves previously stated that the cost for destroying the chemicals was approximately 150,000 euros. However, official budget information from Ambimed indicated a total of 177,444 euros (including VAT) and suggested the budget covered more than just the materials from the specific operation.

During a parliamentary hearing, Rita Júdice denied any lies were told, asserting that the information provided to her ministry originated from the PJ services. She noted that a detailed verification is underway to confirm if the budget items pertain exclusively to Operação Pacoba. André Ventura, leader of Chega, accused the Minister of Justice of lying to Parliament to protect Neves, suggesting either the PJ is withholding information or the Minister is attempting a cover-up.
