Ritabhata Trinamool faction names Biplab Mitra state president, eyes Birbhum district chief role for Anubrat Mondal

West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress is witnessing a sharp internal rift as the faction led by Ritabhata Banerjee – branding itself as the ‘real Trinamool’ – convened a two‑day marathon meeting at the Tapsia Board Club. The gathering finalized a new state and national committee aimed at challenging the party’s current leadership.

Among the key appointments, senior leader Biplab Mitra was named state president of the Ritabhata camp, with Javed Khan as his deputy. The reshuffle also placed fresh faces in charge of the women’s, student, youth, minority, labour and farmer wings, and introduced new members to the national executive, signaling a broad reorganisation of the faction’s structure.

Separately, reports indicate that senior politician Anubrat Mondal has joined the Ritabhata camp alongside other local figures and may be slated to become the district president of Birbhum. No formal announcement has been made, and the moves remain subject to confirmation.
