RiTE Ugljevik and Prokuplje Water Utility Issue One‑Hour Warning Strikes Over Wage and Management Disputes

Workers at the RiTE Ugljevik coal‑mining and power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina began a one‑hour warning strike, demanding urgent payment of contributions to salaries and the start of wage‑increase negotiations. The union also warned that further actions could follow if the management does not meet their demands.

In the Serbian town of Prokuplje, employees of the municipal water utility conducted a similar one‑hour daily strike, citing delayed wages, unpaid allowances and calling for the resignation of acting director Ivan Nikolić. The strike committee said the protests will continue until their requests are satisfied.

Both actions reflect heightened labor tension in public‑sector enterprises in the Balkans, with workers pressing for better pay and clearer management accountability ahead of upcoming political cycles.
