Riu Hotels & Resorts announces Caribbean and Asian expansion

Riu Hotels & Resorts plans to expand its presence in the Caribbean, targeting both established destinations and emerging areas. Joan Trian Riu, a managing director for the chain, indicated that the company is looking for opportunities in the Anglophone Caribbean and Asia to grow its footprint.

In Mexico, which remains a primary international market for the company, Riu intends to continue expanding or reconverting its presence. The company maintains a policy of preventing assets from becoming obsolete, performing complete renovations on its properties every 10 to 12 years on average.

While Cancún remains a major hub with a diverse visitor base, regional trends show that destinations such as Punta Cana and Jamaica have gained ground, partly due to challenges like sargassum seaweed.
