RIU Hotels & Resorts launches global sustainability strategy in Dominican Republic

RIU Hotels & Resorts has officially introduced its new global sustainability strategy, titled ‘Proudly Committed’, during an event at the Riu Palace Bávaro in the Dominican Republic. The initiative aims to integrate environmental and social responsibility into the brand's core corporate decision-making processes.

During the presentation, company executives reported that RIU's operations contributed over US$191 million to the Dominican economy in the last fiscal year. This total includes more than US$64 million in tax contributions, US$25 million in direct salaries for local employees, and over US$102 million in purchases from national suppliers. Additionally, the company noted that it has allocated more than US$1.2 million to community and environmental initiatives in the country over the past five years.

The strategy focuses on four fundamental pillars: sustainable communities and destinations, environment and climate, and social impact. The event, attended by Tourism Minister David Collado, also included recognition for partner organizations such as Fundemar, Save the Children, Ciudad de Dios, and MAIS-ECPAT for their work in marine conservation, child protection, and community education.
