Riudellots de la Selva demands A-2 industrial park access improvements
The Riudellots de la Selva City Council has approved a motion of support for the Association of Owners of the Riudellots Industrial Park (APRS) to demand improvements to the industrial zone's access points from the A-2 highway.
The move follows the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda's decision to reject previous requests made by the APRS. The requested improvements include road surface repairs, enhanced lighting, and the creation of a new access point. The Ministry has reportedly declined to commit to pavement repairs and has shifted the responsibility for initiating a new access point to private developers.
Local authorities cite a 2021 mobility study showing high traffic volumes, with 8,672 vehicles passing through the main access daily, including 775 heavy trucks. The council expressed concern for the safety of approximately 10,000 workers, noting that high traffic during winter evening hours increases accident risks due to poor lighting. Additionally, the municipality criticized having to cover maintenance costs for a state-owned tunnel adjacent to the access point, calling it an improper diversion of responsibility.
