River Asukwakwa bridge requested for Dodo-Bethel communities

Stakeholders in the Oti Region have called for the construction of a bridge over the River Asukwakwa at Dodo-Bethel to improve connectivity for several communities, including Dodo-Berkpo, Asante Kofe, and Kubease.

During a District Child Protection Committee meeting in Kadjebi, residents reported that the lack of a bridge makes movement difficult, particularly during the rainy season when the river overflows. This has resulted in schoolchildren being stranded and unable to access education, as well as residents being cut off from markets, health facilities, and other essential services. The situation has also posed safety risks, with reports of fatalities occurring during attempts to cross the river.

Gregory Aeibo Kanchebe Tonozie, the Kadjebi District Planning Officer, stated that the bridge construction is included in the Assembly’s 2026-2029 Medium-Term Development Plan. He noted that the Assembly is working to secure resources for the project and also mentioned plans to connect these communities to the national electricity grid.
