River Plate lines up Ángel Correa as third summer signing

River Plate has completed two early acquisitions for the 2026‑2027 season – centre‑back Nicolás Otamendi and midfielder Mauro Arambarri – and is now focusing on a third reinforcement. Club official Juan Cortés announced that Ángel Correa, the World Cup‑winning Argentine forward, is set to join River after negotiations with Tigres of Mexico. The deal is expected to cost between €10 million and €13 million, with a staggered payment structure.

The club will begin pre‑season training on 17 June at River Camp before moving to Alicante, Spain, to integrate the new signings. While River also explored the possible acquisition of Paraguayan defender Gustavo Gómez, the player’s high salary and contract situation in Brazil make the transfer unlikely.

River’s strategy, as described by Cortés, is to offload high‑wage contracts and replace them with impactful players who can contribute immediately to the team’s performance.
