River Plate overhauls squad, eyes return of homegrown prospects

River Plate is undertaking a major restructuring of its first‑team roster under coach Eduardo Coudet. The club has formally notified several senior players, including Giuliano Galoppo, Paulo Díaz, Maximiliano Salas and Kevin Castaño, that they must find new clubs ahead of the 2026 Clausura, with further names such as Lautaro and Facundo Colidio also being targeted for transfer. The coaching staff aims to free up resources for new signings and improve performance.

At the same time, River Plate has opened preliminary talks to bring back two promising academy graduates, Mastantuono and Echeverri, who are currently playing abroad. The club sees their potential return as a way to blend youth with experience and strengthen the squad for the second half of 2026, while also rekindling fan enthusiasm. Negotiations are still in early stages and no agreements have been finalized.
