River Plate pre‑season: Arambarri and Driussi central to new campaign

River Plate began its 2026 pre‑season in Alicante, Spain, with new signing midfielder Mauro Arambarri featuring prominently. In his first interview, Arambarri said he hopes to debut at the Monumental on 25 July against Barracas Central and described his preferred role as a versatile central midfielder who can also support the attack. He noted that his recent injury problems are “a thing of the past” after overcoming ankle, knee‑ligament and meniscus issues that kept him out for long periods between 2022 and 2024.

Alongside Arambarri, forward Seba Driussi has been highlighted as a key player for coach Marcelo Coudet. Driussi missed 20 matches over the past year and a half due to multiple muscle and ligament injuries but returned to full fitness in Alicante, completing all training drills without setbacks. He entered the pre‑season with 17 goals in the previous campaign, making him the team’s top scorer and a focal point of Coudet’s attacking plans. Both players are expected to feature from the first friendly on 3 July and into the official Clausura fixtures starting 17 July, reinforcing a midfield and attack that were previously considered weak spots.
