River Plate President addresses tensions with AFA
During a recent Board of Directors meeting, River Plate President Stefano Di Carlo addressed the ongoing tension between the club and the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Di Carlo defended the club's decision to maintain distance from certain AFA structures, arguing that the institution will not compromise its traditional values to fit into a culture of ‘being on the inside’ or ‘making deals.’
Di Carlo noted that while institutional dialogue remains cordial and fluid, there is an evident animosity from AFA President Claudio Tapia toward River Plate. He stated, “You cannot expect to be loved by the one who does not love you,” emphasizing that the club must engage in political and institutional discussions based on principles rather than seeking superficial harmony at the expense of their identity.
