River Plate targets Abel Ferreira and key reinforcements for 2027
River Plate is actively planning for its 2027 cycle, focusing on both coaching leadership and squad reinforcements. President Stefano Di Carlo is reportedly considering Abel Ferreira, the current Palmeiras manager, as a primary candidate for the head coaching position. However, Ferreira’s contract with the Brazilian club runs until December 2027, making an early arrival difficult and requiring complex negotiations.
In terms of player recruitment, the club has identified three priority areas to strengthen its core: central defense, midfield, and goalkeeping. For defense, Francisco Álvarez of Argentinos Juniors is a key target, following previous interest in Nehuén Pérez and Juan Valentín Giménez. In midfield, Franco Ibarra is being considered to provide stability, especially given uncertainty regarding Fausto Vera’s future.
To address the goalkeeping position, particularly if Santiago Beltrán moves to Europe, River is eyeing Yassine Bounou (Bono) from Al-Hilal. While the Moroccan goalkeeper is a high-priority target, his current contract in Saudi Arabia presents significant economic obstacles. The club intends to fund these high-level signings through potential player sales and existing revenue, though no official agreements have been reached.
