Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara Loses APC Support for Second-Term Bid

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been denied backing from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu for a re‑election bid. Party leaders say the governor fell out with President Tinubu after reneging on a reconciliation agreement with former governor and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. The APC leadership refused to formally welcome Fubara, citing the lack of Wike’s endorsement and the settlement that barred him from seeking a second term. President Tinubu allegedly intervened to halt two impeachment attempts against Fubara, urging him to focus on governance and stay out of party politics with Wike.

According to insiders, the party and the presidency have made clear that the Governors’ Forum and the national leadership do not support Fubara’s second‑term ambition, leading him to accept the agreement that precludes another term.
