Nigeria: Political shifts and infrastructure projects ahead of 2027

As the 2027 presidential election approaches, significant political realignments are occurring in Nigeria. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, while also backing Kingsley Chinda as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Rivers State governorship. Fubara emphasized that this move is intended to ensure stability and end political hostilities in the state.

In Northern Nigeria, religious and political leaders are mobilizing support for the incumbent. Bishop John Praise Daniel, General Overseer of Dominion Chapel International, commissioned the national secretariat of Arewa Christians for Tinubu 2027 (ACT-2027) in Abuja, calling for northern Christians to unite behind Tinubu. Additionally, political leaders noted that the resuscitation of the Bank of Agriculture has resulted in the disbursement of approximately N700 billion to 400,000 farmers in the north to bolster agricultural support.

Security concerns have emerged regarding campaign materials, with reports of heavy security deployment and barbed wire being used to protect President Tinubu’s billboards in Kaduna and Niger states to prevent vandalism. Meanwhile, in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara is overseeing the reconstruction of the Creek Road Market, which is expected to provide 700 shops and ease traffic congestion by January 2027.
