Rivers State PCRC urges residents to avoid mob action
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State has issued a call for residents to uphold the rule of law and refrain from mob action against criminal suspects.
PCRC Chairman Dr. Voke Emore urged citizens in Port Harcourt to desist from assaulting, torturing, or stripping suspected thieves and other criminals. Emore emphasized that suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law and noted that jungle justice hinders police investigations.
The organization expressed support for a directive from Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, who warned against inhuman treatment of suspects and advised the public to hand apprehended individuals over to appropriate security agencies.
