Rivers State Police rescue teenager locked in toilet

Police in Rivers State, Nigeria, have rescued a 15-year-old girl, identified as Amarachi, who was allegedly locked inside a toilet for months by her employers in Abuloma, Port Harcourt.

The teenager, originally from Ebonyi State, was working as a house help for a couple. Reports indicate she was confined as punishment for an undisclosed offense and was reportedly fed only once a day with leftover food. The girl was rescued on Monday, September 14, after her cries attracted the attention of neighbors or after the landlord noticed her prolonged absence and alerted authorities.

Blessing Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the arrest of the husband and wife. The police stated that the girl would not be returned to the residence where the abuse occurred and that her family has been contacted to visit the station. An investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
