Rivers State University Teaching Hospital launches life support training

The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has launched a specialized training program focused on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). The initiative aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve the clinical competence of healthcare professionals.

Chief Medical Director Professor Chizindu Dike Alikor inaugurated the program on August 24, 2026, noting that the training is intended to provide medical staff with the practical skills and confidence necessary to make critical decisions during life-threatening emergencies. The program's first phase includes 50 participants, with plans to expand the training to more healthcare professionals in future phases to ensure sustained capacity building.

Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, served as the special guest of honor and officially flagged off the commencement of the training. The session was attended by various medical practitioners and consultants from across Rivers State.
