Riverside County brush fire burns over 60 acres near Perris

A brush fire, identified as the Wood Fire, scorched over 60 acres in Riverside County on Tuesday afternoon. The blaze reportedly began around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Wood and Cajalco roads in unincorporated Perris, potentially originating from a rubbish pile.

Firefighting efforts involved the Riverside County Fire Department, Riverside Fire Department, Murrieta Fire & Rescue, and Cal Fire. Resources included four air tankers and three water-dropping helicopters. While the forward spread was halted by late afternoon, containment was expected to continue into Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for several zones near the burn area, including homes and agricultural operations. Local authorities closed several roads, such as segments of Cajalco, Salter Road, Barton, and Riders streets, for public safety. No injuries were reported.
