Riverside man faces leg amputation after rescuing pregnant woman from fire

Brian Jackson, a man from Riverside, California, is facing a long recovery and the potential loss of both legs after attempting to rescue a pregnant woman from a burning apartment complex.

The fire reportedly began when several rechargeable batteries exploded while Jackson was visiting a friend. As smoke filled the building, Jackson observed a pregnant woman attempting to jump from a window to escape the flames. He intervened to prevent her from jumping, intending to descend first to assist her safely.

During the rescue attempt, an explosion occurred, causing Jackson to be pushed from the building. While first responders successfully evacuated the woman to safety, Jackson was transported to Riverside Community Hospital for emergency surgery. His family noted that his primary concern upon waking was the well-being of the woman and her unborn child.
