Rivian begins R2 SUV deliveries as analysts rate stock hold

Rivian Automotive started delivering its new R2 electric SUV, with the first Performance with Launch Package model priced from $57,990 and later trims ranging down to $44,990. The launch is seen as a move into the mid‑luxury market and a step toward higher volume and better margins.

Twenty‑seven brokerages issued a consensus "hold" rating on Rivian shares, with twelve analysts recommending a buy, nine a hold and six a sell. Price targets range from $12 to $25, while Deutsche Bank upgraded its rating to buy with a $23 target. Analyst commentary highlights the R2 as a potential catalyst to counter the perception that U.S. consumers are "anti‑EV," and notes ongoing partnerships, such as AT&T’s 5G connectivity for the vehicle. Despite optimism, concerns remain about revenue growth, profitability and stock volatility.

Rivian CEO Robert J. Scaringe recently sold 34,818 shares at an average of $15.00, reflecting continued scrutiny of the company’s financial outlook.
