Rivian expands electric van range and adds all-wheel drive

Rivian has begun delivering technical updates for its electric delivery vans, including the Electric Delivery Van (EDV) used by Amazon and its own Rivian Commercial Van (RCV). The updates feature a larger lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and an optional all-wheel drive system.

The new large battery offers a usable capacity of 129 kWh, providing approximately 30 percent more range than the standard 90 kWh battery. For the EDV 700 model, this results in an estimated range of about 220 miles. The addition of a second electric motor on the rear axle enables all-wheel drive, which Rivian intends to help drivers navigate rural areas and unpaved roads.

Deliveries of these new variants commenced in early October. The all-wheel drive option and the larger battery are specifically available for the larger EDV 700 body style, which features 710 hp from two Enduro electric motors. The smaller EDV 500 model will continue to use the standard battery and front-wheel drive configuration.
