Rivian expands EV lineup with R2 SUV and lower-priced R3 and R4 models

Rivian is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with new models targeting different price points and capabilities. The R2 mid-size SUV has received positive reviews for its dual ability to handle highway driving via Autonomy+ technology and navigate challenging off-road terrain. The R2 Performance Launch Package is priced starting at $57,990, while a more affordable R2 Premium version is expected to start at $53,990. Eventually, a standard R2 version with an estimated range of over 275 miles is expected to be released for approximately $45,000.

CEO RJ Scaringe has indicated that the upcoming R3 hatchback will be priced ‘materially lower’ than the R2, potentially starting below $40,000. Scaringe also noted that a subsequent model, the R4, will be even more affordable than the R3. The R3 is slated for production at Rivian’s upcoming factory in Georgia, with production expected to begin in 2028.
