Rivian Expands Illinois Production and Raises 2026 Delivery Target
Rivian Automotive announced that it will add a second shift to the R2 assembly line at its Normal, Illinois plant, with the extra shift expected to begin by the end of the third quarter. The R2, the company's most affordable midsize electric SUV, entered deliveries on June 9 and has attracted over 200,000 reservations.
In the second quarter, Rivian delivered 12,194 vehicles and produced 12,613 units at the Illinois facility, prompting the company to raise its full‑year 2026 delivery guidance to between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles, up from the prior 62,000‑67,000 range. Revenue for the quarter reached $1.658 billion, with a gross profit of $179 million. Rivian also highlighted ongoing partnerships, including Volkswagen’s $5.8 billion joint‑venture investment and Uber’s up‑to‑$1.25 billion commitment for robotaxi deployment.
