Rivian introduces Pet Cam feature for R2 models

Rivian has released a new software update introducing the Pet Cam feature, specifically for the R2 vehicle model. This feature utilizes the high-definition interior camera to provide a live stream of the vehicle's cabin via the Rivian app. Users can also receive regularly refreshed snapshots directly on their phone's lock screen to monitor pets while away from the vehicle.

Access to the live streaming feature requires a subscription to the Connect+ plan at $14.99 per month. The Gear Guard Live Cam service is limited to one hour of streaming per day. To prevent privacy issues, the system is designed to detect if a person is in the vehicle and will deny monitoring if a human is detected.

Additionally, the update brings improvements to Pet Mode for both R2 and R1 models. Owners can now remotely activate or deactivate Pet Mode through the Rivian app, which includes a confirmation prompt to prevent accidental toggling. The update also introduces the Rivian Assistant AI voice assistant to the R2 model, assisting with navigation, entertainment, and climate controls.
