Rivian launches Ghostbusters-themed Halloween software update

Rivian has launched a Ghostbusters-themed Halloween software update for its R1T, R1S, and R2 electric vehicle models. The update, which is available from October 9 through November 2, transforms the vehicle's user interface and provides various themed features.

Key additions include a Ghostbusters-themed dashboard, custom interior and exterior lighting sequences, and themed audio such as the franchise's theme song and specific sound effects like proton beams and ghost traps. Owners can access a “Trick or Treat Mode” that uses exterior lights and sounds to greet guests, as well as interactive minigames like “Mallow Mash” and a scavenger hunt featuring characters like Slimer and Mini-Pufts.

A promotional commercial for the update features Bill Murray reprising his role as Dr. Peter Venkman. The advertisement showcases a customized R1S dubbed the “Ecto-R1,” which mimics the appearance of the iconic Ecto-1 with a specialized roof rack and themed badging. The software update is provided free of charge via an over-the-air download.
